The intro to the original Dune tells the story of how a Rossak sister became a Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is from the one called Mentats of Dune. The three books intertwine the development of the Sisters, Mentats, Navigators, and Doctor Suk. I don’t want to criticize just the first episode of a TV show, but this was just average on every level.
The story was very loose and the dialogue was not worthy
The acting was worse than some of the greats like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and maybe Travis Fimmel. The rest of the cast felt like they just came out of a film academy or something. I like slow dramas that take forever to build because I know the payoff is worth it. But this wasn’t just slow, there was a lot going on, but it was just boring, I don’t know how else to describe it.
Like I heard a lot of music here that had no impact
The soundtrack that ran through the movies was a little off here and there, there were familiar sounds here and there, but the timing was just off. I remembered how long we were on set, just people talking, and then boom, Hans Zimmer does his magic, and I was so excited. But I know he didn’t make a fuss here, and I don’t even need to check that. I don’t know if Denis Villeneuve was involved in this production, I hope not.
Food for thought
My question is, did he really like that it was made? Will such a mediocre TV show after two epic movies affect the long-awaited third movie? I’m curious because The Penguin was so good that it made me appreciate Batman even more than I did after watching it and I can’t wait to see the second movie. So how will Dune: Prophecy affect the third movie, if there is one.
