Starred in AniMat’s insane animated feature The Stupid Old Deadly Bear (2022)
Line of Events
Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that lands them lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in Skeleton Crew; and more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains the young Neel siblings is the same as the Chewbacca family clock in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
I mean, after the sequel trilogy and its many disappointments
Like most ’80s kids, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’d be lying if I said it was a direction I really wanted for new Star Wars content. Others – all of Disney’s live-action content, except for Andor, Rogue One, and the first two seasons of Mando, is average to bad for me – I just crave good, mature, epic Star Wars content. Show me a show like Andor, set in the Old Republic, with Jedi, Sith, and Nick Gillard as a stunt coordinator in lightsaber battles.
Skeleton Crew is actually good
BUT… It’s not offensive or poorly done; it’s clearly not cheap like the Boba Fett book; it’s not pointless like Mando Season 3; it’s not story-breaking like the sequels and Kenobi; it’s not tone-deaf like Acolyte. The writing so far (from episode 2) is decent: the effects, costumes, and locations look great: it all has a certain charm.
So far so good
I’m guessing this, like Andor, is a passion project for its creators and the higher-ups saw it as a minor side project so they didn’t bother to get involved, which is a blessing for Lucasfilm these days. 7.5/10..
