Anora, a young prostitute from Brooklyn, impulsively meets and marries the son of an oligarch
When news reaches Russia, her fairy tale is threatened when her parents leave for New York to annul the marriage. Karren Karagulian has starred in all of Sean Baker’s films and this is her biggest role in any of his films. In a scene set in Las Vegas, a character refers to “McCarran Airport.” Although Las Vegas International Airport was known as McCarran International Airport for many decades, its name was changed to Harry Reid International Airport in late 2021.

The setting is compelling
Daddy AF Written by and starring Catherine Slater (aka Slayyter). Mikey Madison plays the title role, a New York City erotic dancer. Then the story grabs us.
There is a notable performance by Madison, but all the performances are good
He recklessly marries (the immature young son of a Russian oligarch) and then finds himself in a terrible situation. The excess of nudity and sex is unfashionable for a mainstream film, but both it and the increasingly comic drama have a rare vivacity. Even the evocative locales, Las Vegas and Coney Island in the off-season, are deftly captured.
The conclusion is not a disappointment
At well over two hours, it is very long, but it holds our attention because we have no idea how it will end. The London Film Festival screenings sold out, and I am not surprised. This is dynamic stuff from a fearless director.
